What Is Vegetarianism?

Vegetarianism is an increasingly popular dietary choice because of its health benefits and eco-friendliness. The practice of abstaining from animal products has existed since ancient times, and it is associated with religious traditions, such as Buddhism. With the amazing amount of plant-based food products available today, it is easier than ever to follow a vegetarian diet. Following are some descriptions of the different degrees of vegetarian diets.
Veganism
There are some vegetarians who entirely subsist on plant foods. They omit all milk, cheese, eggs, butter and even honey from their diets. These people are called "vegans." Most vegans have ethical reasons for their dietary restrictions; that is, they do not believe in the raising of animals for food. Vegans often believe that it is not ethical or natural for a human to drink the milk of a cow, goat or sheep. Although the most popular motivation for veganism is ethical, there are now many popular books that recommended a vegan or mostly vegan diet to reduce the incidence of heart disease, obesity and cancer. However, vegans must take care to supplement their diets with Vitamin B-12, which is only found naturally in animal products.
Lacto-ovo
The most common vegetarian diet is lacto-ovo vegetarianism. This diet is the easiest to follow. It boasts many adherents, as well as an entire culinary tradition in India. It is quite simple to follow a lacto-ovo diet, as one may consume milk, eggs, cream and butter. Quiche, grilled cheese, fettuccine alfredo, omelets and more are all acceptable on this diet.
Pescatarianism
Pescatarianism is the practice of eating a vegetarian diet supplemented with fish. Although this practice is controversial among ethical vegetarians, it is more common than ever, as people want to take advantage of the healthy omega-3 fats found in fish while avoiding the saturated fats in red meat.
There are as many reasons for choosing a vegetarian diet as there are people in the world. Veganism, lacto-ovo vegetarianism and pescatarianism are all viable options for those seeking a healthier diet. Not only is vegetarianism lifestyle, but it is a dietary practice with roots in ancient times.
